About Spay and Neuter Surgery

As pet owners ourselves, we at Nutmeg Spay/Neuter Clinic understand that you only want the best for your loyal companion. By choosing to spay/neuter your furry friend you are giving her/him the chance to live a longer, healthier, and happier life because the benefits of spaying and neutering include: reducing the risk of deadly diseases such as mammary and testicular cancers; your male will have a lessened drive to mate and assert territorial dominance; your female will avoid a deadly uterine infection called pyometra, plus unwanted litters. Additionally, your pet will be less likely to roam, to show aggression, and do damage to your home.

We are a reduced cost spay/neuter surgery clinic for cats and dogs. All prices include a brief pre-operative exam, anesthesia, surgery, and pain medication. We do perform other surgeries on a case by case basis. Please call us for more details and pricing.

At the time of surgery, your pet will receive a small green tattoo on the abdomen, which readily indicates that he/she has been neutered/spayed and negates any question that your pet has been sterilized.

Wellness Visits

It’s important for pets to get a physical examination once a year by a veterinarian. Many issues and chronic conditions can be diagnosed, treated, or better managed with routine screenings. If your loving, furry companion hasn’t seen a veterinarian in the past 12 months, consider making an appointment with Nutmeg.

During your pre-scheduled wellness appointment, a veterinarian will perform a comprehensive examination on your pet, administer any necessary vaccinations and/or preventatives needed, and give you time to discuss with the doctor your pet’s health and any concerns you may have. Our bundled, reduced-cost package includes the examination and core vaccines (rabies and distemper). For dogs only, a heartworm test is also included.

Our wellness visits are not meant for pets with active injuries or illnesses, but for generally well pets that have not seen a veterinarian and need updated vaccinations. We also offer non-core vaccines, routine bloodwork, nail trims, microchipping, and ear cleaning. Compassionate end-of-life services are also available.

See our price list for wellness care services available at Nutmeg.

It is important for your pet to have a yearly examination by a doctor to assess their general health, get ahead of any potential issues, and ensure your companion lives their longest and happiest life alongside you. Make an appointment today!

Surgical Follow-Up Care

If there are any questions or concerns directly related to the surgery during the recovery period, please call our clinic at (203) 690-1550 or email info@nutmegclinic.org. Nutmeg Spay/Neuter Clinic will treat at our clinic, at minimal cost, most post-op complications resulting directly from surgery, if the post-op instructions are followed in full. We will not be held responsible for complications resulting from failure to follow these instructions, or for contagious disease for which the animal was not previously properly vaccinated or other non-surgical conditions. Your regular veterinarian must address illnesses or injuries that are not a direct result of surgery. Should your pet experience a post op complication outside of our regular business hours, follow up with your regular veterinarian. If your pet is experiencing an emergency, contact your regular veterinarian or any of the following 24-hour emergency hospitals:

  • VCA Shoreline Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center (Shelton) 203-929-8600
  • VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center (Norwalk) 203-854-9960
  • New Haven Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine 203-865-0878
